Southern Peninsula Services specialises in high quality residential and educational provisions for children between 7-19 who may have Learning Difficulities including SEMH and Autism. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential.


Southern Peninsula Services currently have two educational settings, Quay View School, which specialises in children with SEMH and currently has 27 pupils and Tor View School in Tavistock which will specialise in children with severe learning difficulties and Autism, due to open towards the end of October 2018 and will have up to 25 pupils.


There are also three Childrens Homes and we are due to open another home in the Okehampton area this year.


All our locations situated within the Tamar Valley and West Devon localities. Please check on for some more information regarding our services.  


We are opening an residential facility to work alongside our schools in Bere Alston and Tavistock, so this role with be term time only (39 weeks a year).  We are looking for enthusiatic staff to join the existing teams in the school.


As a Residential Teaching Assistant you will be a key member of our team, providing high standards of person-centred support and care to our service users. You will also be expected to provide support for the young persons when they are attending the school setting.


Through a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with both service users and their families and other stakeholders, supporting service users in the planning of goals and in teaching them life skills. Both personal care, supporting education and participation in activities are key tasks for the role, so energy and initiative is vital.

You'll be working Monday to Friday 08.30-16.00 (08.30-17.00 once a week for staff meeting but will be paid overtime.

Candidates must have either:

•           A Level 3 Diplomas in Children or Young People's Workforce or willingness to undertake this qualification within a robust timescale

•           Experience of working as Teaching Assistant or in an educational setting is desired but not essential

Although being a car driver is not essential the school is located in a rural setting with limited public transport so own transport is desired.

For all roles we require a minimum of two references.  References provided must cover the last 3 years, or you are applying to work within our Children’s Homes we will need to request all references from where you have worked with either Children or Vulnerable Adults.
