The Dene Hospital is located in beautiful West Sussex and offers the opportunity to gain experience across many specialist mental health

disciplines including Secure Services, a DBT Locked Rehabilitation service, PICU Services and Acute care.

Job Advert Role Description

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist with proven experience working within a Mental Health setting and looking for a new challenge?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Occupational Therapist to join our team working at The Dene, a large site providing secure services for both men and women with mental illnesses and personality disorders.

This role will be to  effectively lead and manage an Occupational Therapy service in line with “College of Occupational Therapy Standards for Practice”. Integrate standards of practice for education personnel: Graduate OT, Senior 6 OT and OTA’s and promote the MDT recovery approach to all aspects of patient care.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Driving the Occupational Therapy Service according to the strategic direction of the hospital to best meet service user needs.

• Leading on the planning and delivery of multi-disciplinary therapeutic patient activity programmes across the hospital.

• Provide clinical support and professional supervision to the occupational therapy team

• Providing specialist clinical interventions led by evidence based practice to enhance patients recovery and sense of wellbeing through engagement in occupation

• Collaborating with External agencies to maintain links with community activities and Patient social inclusion programs: Koestler Trust, community art festivals.

• Leading on the CQUIN Recovery College in Secure Settings programme

• Maintaining a clinical case load

 

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of working in mental health ideally with experience within an inpatient setting
  • Currently working in at least a Band 6 or 7 role (a lead or head of department role is desirable)
  • Experience of supervising or line managing staff
  • Post Graduate Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current and valid registration with HCPC
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Proven experience of leading and facilitating individual / group sessions
