Job Advert Location Description

Safety and quality is at the heart of everything we do for our patients at Meadow View Hospital.  We have 28 beds across two 14-bed wards.  We specialise in male patients who need conditions of low security in which to recover, and from where they can re-enter the community.  We strive at all times to provide care in the least restrictive manner, to maximise our patients’ independence, to empower and involve our patients and their carers in their care, and to maintain the highest standards of dignity and respect for our patients and their carers.

Job Advert Role Description

As a result of career progression, a consultant forensic psychiatrist vacancy has arisen at Meadow View Hospital, Gainsborough

Priory North operates a consultant-led medical model, with manageable patient caseloads and plentiful support from either Specialty Doctors or Advanced Practitioners/Nurse Prescribers.  The focus is on high quality expert psychiatric care delivered to the wards by consultants who are specifically trained and skilled in the models of care, and who are clinical leaders for values, ethics, and innovation.  The medical team across the North Region is cohesive and diverse and is evolving to work as a functional problem-solving department, despite the geographical distance between sites.  There is a strong medical presence in governance and at Regional SMT level, which supports medical staff at site.  The successful applicant will be joining an expanding and exciting team of skilled medical staff who are committed to quality improvement, personal and professional development, and enjoyable working lives.

The Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist is part of, and provides the clinical leadership to, a multidisciplinary team that aspires to provide excellent bespoke care to enable our patients to fulfil their recovery goals and work towards discharge to the life they want.  The Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist is responsible for leading the medical care of patients in their allocated caseload, supervising their allocated Specialty Doctor or Advanced Practitioner, and leading the multidisciplinary team.  The Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist has a key role in leading the team to provide evidence-based treatment, and always putting the patient at the centre of the team’s approach.   The medical model of care is a consultant-led service.  This post is a Forensic Psychiatry consultant post for the two 14-bed male low secure wards at Meadow View Hospital.  A full time Specialty Doctor will support the post.

The successful applicant will join an established MDT on the unit, which includes a psychologist, an OT, and an Advanced Practitioner. The maximum caseload is 28, and this is consistent with consultant-led specialist service with Specialty Doctor support.

The successful candidate will be joining a stable and well-run site, which has strong governance.  The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in service and quality development and to participate in the weekly doctors’ meeting (held at Calverton Hill Hospital).  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in working in a forensic environment in a male rehabilitation service, as well as a demonstrable commitment to innovation, evidence-based interventions, multi-professional working and service-user involvement.

The on call is a first on-call 1 in 7 covering the secure services across four sites in Nottingham.  The sites are close to each other.  This requires the post-holder to be within 30 minutes of Calverton Hill Hospital when on call.  There is on call accommodation at Calverton Hill Hospital if required.

What we’d like to give you:

•           Disclosure check cost coverage

•           Comprehensive induction and commitment to ongoing training
