The Priory Lodge School is a school for young people aged 9-19 with mild to moderate autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated learning difficulties. Located in Roehampton, SW London, we aim to deliver the highest level of education and care according to individual needs in a safe, positive and structured environment.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Specialist Teacher and Assessor to join our team.  The role involves teaching and assessing students with specific learning difficulties and requires candidates to have experience in teaching students with dyslexia and dyscalculia.  The candidate must have a level 5 equivalent qualification in assessing and teaching students with specific learning difficulties.

 This position provides an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to support Priory Lodge School to deliver an outstanding service to students with a diagnosis of high functioning autism and other Special Educational Needs.  Candidates who wish to take on or develop into the role of SENDCo will be supported to do so after a successful probation period.

This role will involve a FT teaching commitment primarily in the core subjects of English and Maths, to include the delivery of literacy and numeracy interventions.

You will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status with a record of exemplary practice.
  •  High expectation of what can be achieved by all groups of children, regardless of challenges faced and a proven track record in raising pupil attainment.
  •  An ability to coach, mentor and lead others
  • Excellent English skills and good reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • The ability to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment.
  • The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEN children.
  •  Skill in working with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs.
  •  The ability to work effectively with the Head Teacher and SLT to achieve excellence.
  • The ability to support and overview the work of the Learning Support Assistants and HLTAs.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work within a team.
  •  Excellent management and organisational skills and experience of leading/managing staff.
  • The necessary communication skills enabling liaising with a variety of external agencies, including parents.
