Job Advert Location Description

Set in its own grounds close to Frome town centre, North Hill House is an independent specialist day and residential school for children and young people aged 6 to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties.

The school has been specifically designed to provide a strong focus for both UK and international students who need different levels of support to succeed, thus allowing young people with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties to thrive effectively in an ever-demanding and complex society.  Students have ambitions to live and work as self-reliant adults and we can help them to reach their goals with continued support, structure and guidance.  The school welcomes students on a day or weekly residential basis for 38 weeks per year.

Job Advert Role Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Support Worker who has experience of working with young people with challenging, complex and diverse needs, as well as knowledge of autistic spectrum disorders and Asperger’s syndrome. You will be a key member of our team, providing high standards of person-centred support and care to our service users. Through a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with both service users and their families, supporting service users in the planning of goals and in living as independently as possible. Both personal care and participation in activities are key tasks for the role, so energy and initiative is vital; experience in a similar role would be an advantage, as are a willingness to learn and the compassion and patience needed to support.

You will help to manage the well-being and behaviour of our young people, including sensitive pastoral situations, dealing with immediate issues on own shift and within own team ensuring outcomes are appropriately followed up and reported, referring significant occurrences to senior staff through agreed channels as appropriate.

Support staff in own team to maintain effective professional relationships with Young People, parents, colleagues, outside agencies and other professionals referring any issues to senior staff as appropriate.

Acting as a positive role model, provide effective supervision and guidance for own team contributing to their performance and professional development.

Inputs into development of local procedures and supervises staff in own team to ensure all actions comply with policy and procedure and are in line with regulatory, statutory and compliance requirements and meet quality standards.

This role will require the individual to work flexibly and to undertake shift work including early shifts, late shifts and weekends.

A diploma level 3 in children and young people would be an advantage.

A clean driving licence with at least 3 years driving experience is essential.
