The Cloisters is a 25 bedded hospital set within a peaceful environment on the edge of Newbury. Working in partnership with Berkshire NHS Trust, the unit offers inpatient individualised treatment and rehabilitation to patients who have mental health problems and require support to increase their recovery and independence with a view to enabling them to leave the hospital and live in varying levels of supported living accommodation.

 

Job Advert Role Description

We are looking to recruit a trustworthy, dynamic, reliable, and motivated individual to be our Maintenance Assistant.

Reporting to the Support Services Manager, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Hospital Maintenance Standards are maintained; and contribute to the delivery of effective, efficient and economical day to day maintenance, new and alteration works to ensure the safety of colleague, patients and visitors.

Your main duties will include:

  • To maintain a well decorated, safe and comfortable environment throughout the site, in line with quality standards, and follow work processes which comply with statutory regulations.
  • To ensure that Priory minimum standards are delivered in all site areas in a timely and efficient manner, as part of a team.   
  • To identify and report damage, faults and other related issues to the Support Services Manager( and then actions as agreed) to ensure that environmental conditions continue to meet quality standards and statutory regulations.
  • To carry out General Maintenance tasks.
  • To carry out compliance testing (e.g fire alarms, bed inspections, vehicle checks) as instructed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Responsible for carrying out local maintenance checks set out in the Maintenance Guide & in Priory Group Policy & Procedure.
  • To provide a security service, maintaining the security and integrity of the building as well as the safety of its occupants.  
  • To undertake regular internal and external patrols of the unit and its grounds, ensuring that all the windows and doors are closed and locked as appropriate to the time of day.
  • To deal with any potential acts of disturbance, vandalism, or theft within the grounds, reporting these and any other untoward or suspicious incidents to the manager in charge.
  • To maintain an accurate record of all incidents and suspicious activities within a log book.
  • To be aware of and comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act, (encompassing risk assessments, method statements and Permits to Work), associated acts and subordinate regulations to minimise risk.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that any attempts at works or projects is within your capabilities and should not expose yourself or others to risk.
  • To carry out such other duties relating to the work of the department as required by Management.

 

The post holder requires basic numeracy and literacy skills and customer focus attitude with team working ethic. You will have an ability to put attention to detail, prioritise and work with minimum supervision. It is necessary that the post holder has good communication skills as you will at times be required to respond to routine enquiries.

You will not be required, nor should you, carry out any works that require a certification unless you are in possession of an in date and correct certificate.

Previous experience and understand of building, plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical disciplines with be an advantage.
