Job Advert Role Description

Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disabilities

Providing quality, inspiring innovation and delivering value is what we set out to achieve at Priory Healthcare. Enabling our patients with mental health difficulties to receive a truly integrated and holistic approach to their treatment, regardless of complexity or severity, thanks to the knowledge and expertise of our multidisciplinary clinical teams.

You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure that clients receive a holistic and person-centric care and treatment programme based on the recovery model. This will include providing consultant input to Knightsbridge House

Clearly, this role is both varied and challenging.  In addition to doing ward rounds, attending CPA and CTR meetings, for example, you will take part in all clinical governance activities and actively contribute to service development in collaboration with the Hospital Director and Service Manager. You will also offer a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of patients at Knightsbridge House.

To join us, you must hold a CCST/CCT or equivalent in the relevant areas of psychiatry and have experience of working in inpatient settings with people with significant learning difficulties. You will certainly have experience at consultant level within the NHS, including the ability to conduct training. A good team player, you must also be keen to participate in a multidisciplinary approach to assessment, formulation and management plans. You will, of course, agree to hold and continue registration with the GMC including being on the specialist register.

Our approach

We welcome visitors to Knightsbridge House and Solent House. We recognise that the people in our care are part of a wider circle of family, friends and networks which are important to them. We aim to work in partnership with them to ensure that we provide the right service and also to support them in their own right as carers. We are happy to provide updates, with patient consent, by means of email, phone or Skype.

We also provide community-based and work placement activities. Patients participate in leisure activities and practice social skills through community activity including:

  • Trips to the town centre to participate in gym, swimming and other leisure facilities
  • College courses
  • Work placement opportunities
  • Visits to nearby coastal areas
  • Drama club
  • Horse riding
