Job Advert Role Description

An experienced Maintenance Assistant is required to help carry out the reactive day to day maintenance issues within the schools and their grounds. You will also assist in supporting our other homes in the community, liaising with contractors when on site and ad-hoc requests from management as and when necessary.

Self motivation and the ability to work with the minimum of supervision, a flexible approach and the ability to prioritise and respond to the changing needs of the home and school are required. An understanding of the working environment and of young people with special education needs including Autism and BESD would be an advantage but not a requirement. Ideally will have experience in some of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering (qualifications are not essential). This position could suit an enthusiastic and experienced DIY-er. 

It is essential that you can drive and have a full and clean driving licence.

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this position and will be applied for once a conditional offer is made.   

Southern Peninsula Services specialises in high quality residential and educational provisions for children between 7-19 who may have Learning Difficulities including SEMH and Autism. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential.

Southern Peninsula Services currently have an educational setting, Quay View School, rated "Good" by Ofsted and two Childrens Homes; all situated within the Tamar Valley and West Devon localities.

 

Please note that this role will be based at both Quay View School and Tor View School (Trelawny Road,Tavistock, West Devon PL19 0JN) so you will need to be able to travel between the two sites.

For all roles we require a minimum of two references.  References provided must cover the last 3 years, or you are applying to work within our Children’s Homes we will need to request all references from where you have worked with either Children or Vulnerable Adults.
