Set in its own grounds close to Frome town centre, North Hill House is an independent specialist day and residential school for children and young people aged 6 to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties.

The school has been specifically designed to provide a strong focus for both UK and international students who need different levels of support to succeed, thus allowing young people with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties to thrive effectively in an ever-demanding and complex society.  Students have ambitions to live and work as self-reliant adults and we can help them to reach their goals with continued support, structure and guidance.  The school welcomes students on a day or weekly residential basis for 38 weeks per year 

Job Advert Role Description

The well established and fully integrated Therapy department, consisting of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapist, Counsellor, Educational Psychologist and art therapist are looking for a dynamic, creative and playful practitioner with a passion and knowledge surrounding Autistic Spectrum Condition [ASC/ASD] and co conditions. The therapists provide specialist direct and indirect support to the young people of North Hill House School on a term time basis only and are flexible with their working hours to ensure the needs are met across the 24 hour day. The successful applicant will receive close support from their professional colleagues alongside direct line management and supervision from the Therapy lead. The school recognizes the complexities of the role and provides all therapists with routine access to external clinical supervision. Ongoing Continual Professional Development [CPD] is encouraged in order to remain at the forefront of evidence based practice and you will have access to a number of training opportunities both on site and external. The successful applicant will be HCPC registered and will hold a BSc Occupational Therapy or profession specific equivalent qualification.

Experience of working with children with complex needs is essential and an interest or further experience in the areas of Sensory Processing Disorder,  attachment, Pathological Demand Avoidance [PDA], or Oppositional Defiant Disorder is desirable.  You will have a post degree qualification, experience, or awareness of Sensory Processing Disorders and feel comfortable with professional terminology and narrative attributed to this modality. The application of Sensory Integration theory in practice underpins a large proportion of the role, assessment and clinical observations and the need to demonstrate a dynamic and creative approach to delivering treatment is necessary.

This role will have a strategic element, whereby you will assess, deliver and review therapeutic provision to our young people. it is also expected that you will provide training and interactive workshops to the staff team to ensure a consistent and coherent approach is maintained.
