Job Advert - Division Information

Priory Education and Children’s Services is a leading company in the UK offering independent behavioural care for commissioners across the UK. With over 100 high quality schools, colleges and homes we focus on making a real and lasting difference for everyone we support.

Job Advert Location Description

Rossendale is a school catering for the needs of pupils statemented under the 1996 Education Act who display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The school currently accepts pupils from some 18 different Local Education Authorities in the North West and although we are predominantly a day school, there is provision for up to 12 pupils to board Monday to Friday in term time only.  Historically there have been 56 pupils on roll, however following an integrated Ofsted inspection in September 2009 permission was granted by DfE for a material change to the School’s provision.  This has allowed us to convert the farmhouse, which previously housed 9 residential pupils, into teaching and support provision for up to 12 pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (high functioning).  We have also had our registration changed recently to incorporate admitting young people up to the age of 18 at our Sixth Form, which now means that we can take up to 72 young people.

Following the material change all residential pupils live off-site. There are two off-site cottages and a detached house in Newchurch, which provide accommodation for pupils.  All the accommodation is both warm and caring, yet provides structure and security, as well as offering opportunities for learning and personal development.

Although Rossendale School is essentially a day School, we fully recognise that for a number of our pupils their wider educational, social and emotional needs cannot be met simply on a daily basis.  Hence the provision of weekly boarding accommodation in family type settings.   It is important that these young people have a home base (not necessarily with their natural family) to which they can return each Friday.  It is an important aspect of the School’s beliefs that we form an effective partnership with the young person’s family or carers and work closely with them to bring about a successful reintegration of the young person to their home.  It is for this reason that each pupil is allocated a Keyworker from the Care Staff Team who will work on a 1-1 basis with the young person, usually outside of class time and liaise regularly with family or carers.
