The Priory Lodge School is a school for young people aged 9-19 with mild to moderate autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated learning difficulties. Located in Roehampton, SW London, we aim to deliver the highest level of education and care according to individual needs in a safe, positive and structured environment.

Job Advert Role Description

We are now looking for a SENDCo to join our ever growing, passionate and dedicated team. This position provides an exciting opportunity for

the successful candidate to support Priory Lodge School to deliver an outstanding service to students with a diagnosis of high functioning autism and other Special Educational Needs.

 

The SENDCo will be a member of our Senior Leadership Team and will lead skilled Learning Support Staff, working with a team of Teachers who are experienced at teaching children with high functioning autism.

 

 The school particularly welcomes applications from SENDCos with some experience, particularly in the areas of supporting children with specific learning difficulties and carrying out access arrangements assessments for exams.

 

This is a full time position which will include up to 50% teaching commitment which will encompass the delivery of interventions. 

 

You will need:

_ Qualified Teacher Status with a record of exemplary practice.

_ The National Award for SEND Co-ordinator is desirable.

_ High expectation of what can be achieved by all groups of children, regardless of challenges faced and a proven track record

in raising pupil attainment.

_ An ability to coach, mentor and lead others.

_ The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEN children.

_ Skill in working with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs.

_ The ability to work effectively with the Head Teacher and SLT to achieve excellence.

_ The ability to support and overview the work of the Learning Support Assistants and HLTAs.

_ Excellent communication skills and an ability to work within a team.

_ Excellent management and organisational skills and experience of leading/managing staff.

_ The necessary communication skills enabling liaising with a variety of external agencies, including parents.

_ Thorough knowledge of the new SEND Code of Practice.
