Oaktree Manor is a low secure hospital providing care and treatment to adults (male and female) with a primary diagnosis of learning disabilities. Patients are all detained under the Mental Health Act and may have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD); challenging behaviours; dual diagnosis including mental health and personality disorders. We have six wards which provide safe and therapeutic environments for the patient group . Oaktree Manor is in Tendring which is near Clacton on Sea , Essex and has good travel links to nearby towns such as Ipswich, Colchester and also London.

 

 

Job Advert Role Description

Oaktree Manor hospital is seeking to recruit a part time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to help and support the lead Speech and Language Therapist who is working fulltime at Oaktree Manor hospital. The successful post holder will work using their own initiative with supervision and support available from the lead Speech and Language Therapist. The post holder will work directly with patients, helping them to overcome speech, language and communication difficulties. The successful candidate will work with patients both one-to-one and in groups, complete administrative tasks and develop resources.

The successful candidate will be expected to implement speech, language and communication care packages to a varied caseload of patients with Learning Disability and/or Autism. Work will be ward based and will include carrying out assessments, developing communication care plans/passports, demonstrating therapy tasks to ward staff and setting up therapy sessions.

Prior experience working with children and/or adults with learning disabilities is essential and interest/experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Condition and related sensory difficulties would also be desired attributes of the successful candidate.
