Pelham Woods is an inpatient rehabilitation service which is well placed to serve the south east of England and provides for the needs of women who have complex mental health problems, personality difficulties and in some instances, a history of challenging behaviour.


The hospital is set in picturesque grounds overlooking the Surrey Hills and has extensive facilities including onsite Gym, Purpose Built Bake off Kitchen aswell as Occupational and Educational Facilities.


Pelham Woods is a motivated, devoted, nurse led service which is dynamic in therapies. As a member of the team at Pelham Woods you will be encouraged to let your creative side flow, positively contributing to the sites success. You will also have free access to the onsite gym facilities.

Job Advert Role Description

As the main Chef you will lead the provision of a catering service within the hospital, with particular emphasis on the planning, preparation, cooking and serving of meals.

You will have responsibility for assistant Chef and catering assistant also.

To be successful in this role you will need:-



  • - Substantial experience as a Chef
  • - Budgetary management skills
  • - Good understanding of Health and Safety
  • - Excellent team working ethics
  • - Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • - Good Interpersonal Skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • - Computer Literate including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • - A flexible, motivated and enthusiastic approach to work
  • - Customer and Patient focused
  • - Experience of working within an office environment

  • To directly supervise any junior catering staff in alliance with the Facilities and Governance Lead.
  • To serve food to patients and staff as directed.
  • Ordering and purchasing of stocks as required in line with the department’s budget and approved stock from PiC’s preferred suppliers list.
  • To contribute ideas and suggestions for menu planning and cost efficiency to promote service development.
  • To contribute ideas and special dietary requests are adhered to.
  • Maintain a high level of hygiene in food storage, kitchen and wash-up areas.
  • Maintain a good food storage procedures and stock rotation and control.
  • Set a professional example in work methods, procedures, personal presentation, interactions with staff and patients, time keeping and hygiene.
  • Maintain flexible working hours at all times.
  • To monitor the food service throughout the facility, ensure a constant high quality of service and food.
  • To maintain health and safety at work practices at all times.
  • To be responsive to feedback from patients and management, taking appropriate steps to make adaptions where required.
